Israel Engagement Committee – This committee seeks out and evaluates cultural, educational, and advocacy opportunities for our members to engage with Israel – both within our congregation and within the larger Jewish community, and to support its flourishing as a peaceful, democratic home for all Jews. Our congregation has taken numerous trips to Israel, celebrates Yom Ha’atzma’ut, and mounts Israel-related programming throughout the year.
Israel in Review – Join Rabbi Jodie for our twice-a-month review of the “situation” in Israel with our resident Israeli guide Julian Resnick. He is a guide who truly helps to bring what is happening in the world outside ourselves into ourselves. We will grapple with the big questions at this sacred moment in time. Israel Film Night – An Israeli-American RSNS member with a background in film leads this wonderful program, focusing on the diverse landscape of Israeli society through a different lens in this ongoing film series.
Israel Education – We believe it is essential that congregants at every age, from nursery school through adults, have a broad exposure to Israel in all its complexity. We prepare our teens for the challenges of their college years and beyond, and our adults have numerous opportunities to learn about the history, politics, and ongoing reality of contemporary life in Israel.
Shinshinim Program – Our synagogue school students are fortunate to connect with a different young Israeli each year, who teaches in our school and runs special programs as part of the SJJCC’s Center for Israel’s Shinshinim program.
Communal Participation – Our congregation has representation on Reconstructing Judaism’s Joint Israel Commission, and we regularly co-sponsor and participates in communal Israel engagement events such as the Israel Day Parade in NYC, Long Island IsraelFest, and rallies in support of peace, democracy and the return of hostages.
