Our community came together in the most wonderful way this past June: to honor our beloved Morah Miriam. Celebrating over thirty years of Miriam’s love for our children was a blessing for us all. She is a treasure to our school, to our families, and to everyone who knows her. It is our honor to share her words of gratitude with you here:
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for their hard work and amazing Thoughtfulness in making this happen in such a spectacular and memorable way.
Almost thirty years ago I walked into a room of small faces-wide eyes, sticky hands, and big open hearts. I had no idea that my room and this place would become my home and sanctuary.
Teaching young children in the synagogue has never just been a job; it became a calling. Every year I have the privilege of meeting little people who are discovering the world for the first time -and somehow every year they help me discover it again too.
Children change constantly; they surprise you; they challenge you, and just when you think that you know what to expect, you realize that they surprise you, always watching, always learning, and always teaching us something in return.
My love of nature and the arts has always found its way into my teaching from painting leaves, listening to birds, and noticing the light changing through the windows. I delight in encouraging our children to make meaning out of the smallest, most beautiful things. This is what early childhood is – small, beautiful things, strung together into a meaningful life.
Being part of this community has been the greatest gift. I’ve watched my students from the time they walk until some are off to college and beyond. You are all not just my colleagues and families – you are the reason that this work matters. Almost thirty years have passed in a blink, and I am still grateful, still learning AND still here!
