The Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore (RSNS) is proud to be a member of the Jewish Climate Leadership Coalition, a network of Jewish nonprofit organizations working together to address climate change through meaningful environmental action and sustainability planning. Launched in 2022 by Adamah in partnership with major Jewish umbrella organizations, the Coalition includes synagogues, Jewish schools, JCCs, camps, Hillels, Federations, and other Jewish communal organizations across North America and beyond.

Through these commitments, RSNS joins hundreds of Jewish organizations working together to address the climate crisis through meaningful, values-driven action rooted in responsibility, stewardship, and care for future generations.
We are excited and deeply grateful to Adamah for awarding RSNS a $3,397 grant through the Adamah NY Climate Action Fund. This grant will support several important sustainability upgrades, including replacing 55 fluorescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting throughout our building and upgrading an older freezer to a new energy-efficient model.
These improvements will have a meaningful environmental and financial impact. The LED lighting upgrade alone is projected to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2.7 metric tons of CO2e (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent) annually while saving approximately $1,200 each year in energy costs. In addition, the new energy-efficient freezer is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 40%, resulting in annual savings of $100–$200.
These projects are meaningful steps in RSNS’s ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact and care for our shared future. We are proud to be part of a coalition of Jewish organizations taking practical action to address the climate crisis. With Adamah’s support, we are able to improve the energy efficiency of our synagogue while encouraging greater environmental awareness and responsibility throughout our community.
