ADULT STUDY WITH RABBI LEE

PATHWAYS THROUGH THE BIBLE: Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:00, twice a month by Zoom

For traditional believers, the Hebrew Bible is considered to be the word of God and the early history of the Israelites.  For modern thinkers, the Bible is a reflection of the writers and editors of the text.  Rabbi Lee uses the tools of literary analysis, anthropology, and archaeology to discover how and why these stories were written and preserved for the past two millennia.  Although this has been an on-going study for many of our attendees, you need not have any previous experience to join this group.  We will begin the year where we left off in June with the story-cycle of Samson in the Book of Judges.  Our first session will take place on October 1.

ZIONISM PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE:  Saturdays from noon to 1:30, twice a month in- person or by Zoom

In past years we have learned that Zionism has had various iterations and a variety of supporters and nay-sayers within the Jewish community.  We will continue to explore the many understandings of what Zionism means and how it has been used and misused by Jews.  This year we will focus on contemporary Jewish thinkers.  No previous experience is necessary for this engagement.  Our first session will take place on October following services for Sh’mini Atseret.

POETRY AND SHORT STORIES:  Tuesdays from 12:00 to 1:00 once a month on Zoom

Both poetry and short stories are very concise ways to explore ideas, often too concise for the idea to be fully understood.  From King David (ninth century BCE) through to Yehudah Amichai (d. 2000) will use many disciplines to explore the intentions and meanings of Jewish writers throughout the centuries.

There are no fees or registration required to join these journeys into Jewish history, politics, and culture.

Check the RSNS calendar for the schedule of events and join me via Zoom.
