The MARCH FOR WOMEN’S LIVES - MARCH FOR FREEDOM OF CHOICE in Washington, D.C. on April 25, 2004 promises to be one of the largest public demonstrations in support of reproductive freedom in history . You are the key to making it a success!

We at RSNS, in coordination with Planned Parenthood of Nassau County, have the opportunity to have our own bus for the members of our community. The cost would be $40 per person, and of course, friends and family are welcome. However, it is important that you register and send in your check to the synagogue immediately if you plan on participating, as we have to commit to paying for the bus by March.

Send a clear, strong, powerful message to Congress and the White House that we will not tolerate restrictions to our freedom of choice. Participate in this historic event and make your voice heard.

The Social Action Committee has been researching and thinking about ways in which members of the synagogue as a community can become involved in ongoing social action close to home. Projects that are already organized and running can enable us to provide more direct service more quickly.

The Port Washington Library has an English as a Second Language Program for adults who, because of their work schedules, are unable to attend classes offered by BOCES. These classes meet at various times in the library and more recently at restaurants where students are working. There is a waiting list of students (the majority Latino/a immigrants) for all levels of English, but not enough volunteers to teach.

The Director of the library program will train us to teach, supervise our student-teaching, and coordinate times. The commitment after the training is for a two hour, once-a-week class. Team teaching, so that the commitment can be shared, is also an option. The dates for the training are the following Saturdays from 12:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m: March 27^th, April 17^th and May 1^st at the Port Washington Library.

Teaching people English is a means to give them tools to advance economically as well as to deal with health and other issues far more comfortably and successfully. To sign up, please contact Tina Rothpearl by email or by phone (see directory).
